I have to admit that I’m pretty biased towards the modern day music that’s being released as hit singles. Most music today has made good bands have been overlooked in favor of autotuned music. Even rock music has 30 seconds to mars and linkin park, who I actually liked before they changed their sound after meteora. Whatever happened to the bands that inspired and created new sounds for new genres? The bands like Husker Du or The Descendants or even Gang of Four. Most people haven’t even heard of these bands but without them bands such as Blink 182, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and most bands in the rock, punk, experimental genre wouldn’t exist today. I went to a concert the other day and a band called Cheap Girls played there. They blew my eardrums into another dimension with their awesome guitar rifts and fun bass strumming and nostalgia drumming. They were such a classic band with their looks and sound. They are a pretty unpopular band so I was easily able to talk to the lead singer, Ian Graham, who happened to be a bassist too. I first complimented him on his awesome band. I also brought up the fact that I played bass and I liked his rhythm. Keep in mind that he isn’t famous yet so he was more than happy to talk to me and he wasn’t annoyed at all. We talked about music for a while after that. We basically talked about what I had previously stated in this blog. What was the best part though was when I brought up Husker Du. I said he sounded quite similar to them and his face lit up. He proceeded to show me a tattoo of Husker Du’s emblem. We laughed together and he told me how they inspire him the most out of any other band that he’s listened too. After making these two resemblances I could listen to both band and enjoy their music even more.
